Dr. S.M. Imran Shoaib was born on November 28, 1985, in the small village of Goraduba, in the Netrokona District of Mymensingh Division, Bangladesh. Goraduba was a peaceful place, surrounded by green fields, calm ponds, and quiet roads. Life there was simple, and people lived close to nature, always ready to help one another.

Dr. Imran’s father, M. A. Quddus, was a high school teacher. He was strict but caring and valued education very much. After many years of teaching, he retired and now enjoys spending time with his family. Dr. Imran’s mother, Firoza Begum, was a homemaker who lovingly took care of the household, even though she faced health challenges.

Dr. Imran was the third child in a family of five siblings, which included four brothers and one sister. Growing up in a big family taught him how to share and care for others. As the middle child, he learned from his older siblings while also looking after the younger ones. Their home was always lively, filled with conversations, playful moments, and the occasional argument. Dr. Imran’s parents taught their children to respect elders, be honest, and prioritize education. Even with limited resources, their father made sure they all went to school.

During this program, he learned how to create supportive devices that would help individuals regain their independence. Dr. Imran’s formal journey began in 2009 when he enrolled in the LEGS M1 Knee Level-1 training at the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) in Dhaka. This course was instrumental in laying the groundwork for his career. It introduced him to the fundamental principles of knee prosthetics, including design, function, and fitting. The hands-on experience allowed him to understand the mechanics of mobility aids and the critical role they play in the lives of users. In 2011, eager to build on his foundational knowledge, Dr. Imran participated in the Development of Quality Control Tools for Prosthetics and Orthotics at Mobility India in Bengaluru. Here, Dr. Imran learned how to implement stringent quality control measures to ensure that every device met high standards of safety and effectiveness. Dr. Imran continued to expand his knowledge by attending more conferences. In 2009, he went to the 19th National Conference of the Orthotics and Prosthetics Association of India in Delhi, where he engaged with leaders in the field. In March 2018, he attended a seminar on the Importance of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) in Rehabilitation in Bangladesh.
