Dr. Riya Gautam’s academic journey, marked by determination and resilience, began in Delhi, where she spent her early school years. Raised in a family that highly valued education, Dr. Riya was always encouraged to excel in her studies. However, it wasn’t just the classroom learning that captivated her; it was the way education connected to her broader sense of duty to society. From a young age, she understood that education was the key to unlocking opportunities for herself and others. This realization would shape her academic pursuits and later become the foundation of her social work.
As Dr. Riya progressed through school, she developed a keen interest in subjects that allowed her to explore human behavior, societal structures, and the complex issues facing disadvantaged communities. Social studies, in particular, captivated her, fueling a desire to understand the root causes of poverty, inequality, and social unrest. Her teachers noticed her curiosity and dedication, and they nurtured her academic interests. Dr. Riya’s passion for learning extended beyond her textbooks, as she often sought additional readings, attended discussions, and participated in debates related to social issues. Her teachers, impressed by her intellectual curiosity, encouraged her to pursue higher education and explore the field of sociology.
After completing her schooling in Delhi, Dr. Riya was ready to embark on the next stage of her educational journey. She chose to pursue her Bachelor’s in Arts at Rohilkhand University in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. The transition from Delhi to a smaller city like Bareilly was a significant shift, but it was one that provided Dr. Riya with an even deeper understanding of the varied social landscapes in India. Rohilkhand University, known for its focus on social sciences, was the perfect environment for Dr. Riya to express her interest in sociology, a subject that would become her lifelong passion.
Dr. Riya excelled academically at the university. She immersed herself in the study of human behavior, societal structures, and the socioeconomic struggles that marginalized communities face. Sociology provided her with a lens to observe societal injustices, including variations in healthcare services, educational opportunities, and gender disparities faced by rural women.
