She was fascinated not only by the great literary works of history but also by the philosophical, cultural, and psychological dimensions that underpinned them. Her focus was not on memorizing texts but on understanding the essence of human experience that literature captured, whether it was the joys, sorrows, dilemmas, or triumphs of individuals and societies.

As Dr. Nirmala progressed into her postgraduate studies, she pursued a Master’s in English Literature (M.A.), which deepened her understanding of literature and sharpened her analytical abilities. During her post-graduate years, spending most of the hours in the University Library, she discovered the beauty of language beyond its basic structure; she came to appreciate the power of words to shape society, influence thought, and instigate change. This philosophical approach to literature informed her views on education as she did not merely see herself as someone who taught students the finer points of grammar or literary analysis; she saw her role as one of guiding students toward deeper insights into life itself.
