Dr. Nasreen Parveen was born in Command Hospital Lucknow, into a family with a proud and distinguished military background. Her father, Mohd Raza (Retd.), served in the Indian Army with honour and dedication, and it was from him that she inherited a sense of duty, discipline, and unwavering resilience. From a very young age, Dr. Nasreen Parveen was taught the importance of responsibility, perseverance, and respect for authority—principles that became the backbone of her character and stayed with her throughout her life.

As the daughter of a senior Army officer, Dr. Nasreen Parveen grew up with a unique rhythm to life. Frequent transfers and new postings meant that the family moved often, experiencing different regions, cultures, and environments across India. This constant movement, while sometimes challenging, became a blessing in disguise. It taught her to be adaptable, open-minded, and resilient. With every new city came a new school, new friends, and new lessons. Dr. Nasreen Parveen attended various Army Public Schools, where rigorous academics and holistic development were emphasized. These institutions helped sharpen her intellect and confidence, while also building a deep-rooted sense of discipline and leadership within her.

Even amid these frequent relocations, she consistently excelled in academics—especially in mathematics and science, subjects that quickly became her favourites. But the real foundation of her love for learning began at home. Her mother, Kismat Jahan, was a remarkable woman in her own right. Although she had only studied up to the 8th grade, her brilliance in math and science was nothing short of extraordinary. A homemaker by choice, she became the first teacher to Dr. Nasreen Parveen and her siblings, nurturing not just their minds but their spirits as well.

It was from her mother that Dr. Nasreen Parveen learned that education is not limited by formal degrees. Her mother’s natural talent and deep curiosity left a lasting impact, becoming a source of daily inspiration. Whether helping solve math problems or explaining the wonders of science in simple, engaging ways, Kismat Jahan quietly passed on a legacy of curiosity, clarity, and confidence to her children

Her early home life was also enriched by the playful companionship of her siblings. Among them, her bond with her elder brothers Mohd Mobin and Mohd Amin, and her eldest sister, Shaheen Parveen—was warm and filled with shared dreams and affectionate teasing. Especially close was her relationship with her brothers, who would often engage in lively banter, playfully tease her, and create an atmosphere of laughter and learning. These light-hearted interactions were more than just childhood fun—they helped instill a strong sense of family, emotional resilience, and mutual support, which would remain with her forever

Phase 2 : A Thirst for Knowledge

“My academic journey was not just about textbooks and exams, but about discovering the power of knowledge, the joy of exploration, and the courage to pursue a path that others might not understand. The encounters I had, the lessons I learned, and the challenges I faced during these years laid the foundation for everything I have achieved since, particularly my passion for biotechnology and my determination to contribute to scientific progress.”

Dr. Nasreen Parveen’s academic journey began at the Army Welfare Education Society schools, followed by Army Schools, institutions that were not only focused on academic excellence but also deeply committed to holistic development. Growing up in an environment that valued education and discipline, Dr. Nasreen Parveen thrived both academically and in extracurricular activities. From an early age, she displayed a deep passion for the arts, particularly dancing, singing, and public speaking. These early interests allowed her to develop a well-rounded personality and a strong sense of self-confidence.

As a student, Dr. Nasreen Parveen actively participated in debates, elocution competitions, and other public speaking events. Each experience helped her refine her communication skills, shaping her into a confident and articulate individual. Her ability to express herself with clarity and conviction would become a hallmark of her professional life later on. The lessons she learned through these activities, such as the power of articulation and the importance of persuasion, served her well throughout her academic and professional endeavours.

In addition to her academic and artistic pursuits, Dr. Nasreen Parveen was also an active participant in sports, particularly basketball and volleyball. Although she did not pursue these sports at a national level, they taught her valuable lessons in teamwork, discipline, and leadership. These experiences in sports further reinforced her belief in the importance of collaboration and working together to achieve common goals—traits that would guide her in her later career.

However, one of Dr. Nasreen Parveen’s most memorable and formative experiences during her academic years was participating in the National Science Congress project on biodegradable substances. This was an opportunity that stood out in her early life, as it allowed her to delve into scientific research and present her findings at the state level. The project itself was centered around environmental sustainability, a cause that would continue to resonate with Dr. Nasreen Parveen throughout her career. It was here, at this event, that Dr. Nasreen Parveen had the honour of meeting Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the renowned scientist and former President of India. The encounter with Dr. Kalam had a profound impact on her, inspiring her to continue pursuing her passion for science with even greater determination and focus. Dr. Kalam’s words of encouragement and his vision for India’s future stayed with Dr. Nasreen Parveen, further fuelling her desire to contribute to scientific advancement.

Phase 3 : Redefining Purpose

“True success is not found in following the path others set for you, but in finding your own way, even when it means stepping away from the expected. Every challenge and every decision that seems like a detour is, in fact, a step toward discovering who you are meant to be.”

After completing high school, Dr. Nasreen Parveen found herself at a crossroads, torn between following her aspirations in genetic engineering and adhering to the expectations placed upon her by her family. Despite her deep interest in biotechnology, her parents, like many others, encouraged her to pursue a more conventional medical degree, such as BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) or engineering. In her pursuit of family approval, Dr. Nasreen Parveen decided to take the route that seemed most secure and universally respected—medicine. She cleared the NEET exam with determination and enrolled in a BDS program at the Government Medical College in Faridkot.

Initially, Dr. Nasreen Parveen tried to embrace the rigorous nature of the dental program, but over time, she began to feel disconnected from the path she had chosen. The clinical aspects of dentistry didn’t ignite the same passion she had for science and healthcare. There was a quiet dissatisfaction that lingered, a sense that she was not fully aligned with her true calling. After much contemplation, she realized that her heart and mind were not in the BDS program. The realization came not with regret, but with clarity—she needed to find her own path, one that resonated more deeply with her intrinsic interests and values.

Leaving the BDS program was not an easy decision, particularly given the expectations surrounding her. It felt like a leap of faith, but it was also an act of courage. Dr. Nasreen Parveen was ready to redefine her future on her own terms. At this pivotal moment, her elder brothers Mohd Mobin and Mohd Amin played a significant role in guiding her. Understanding her passion for science and healthcare, he suggested that she consider pursuing nursing, a field that blended her scientific aptitude with a direct, impactful connection to people. Initially uncertain, Dr. Nasreen Parveen decided to take his advice, and soon after, she applied to the nursing program at Symbiosis International University in Pune.

Dr. Nasreen Parveen’s decision to switch courses marked the beginning of a transformative period in her life. When she arrived at Symbiosis, she was not only excited to start anew but also impressed by the rich opportunities the institution offered. Symbiosis was known for its comprehensive and holistic approach to education, fostering not just academic excellence but personal growth, leadership, and community involvement. It was a dynamic environment where students were encouraged to pursue their passions and make a difference in the world.

Soon after enrolling in the nursing program, Dr. Nasreen Parveen discovered a world of new possibilities. One of the most impactful opportunities that came her way was the availability of scholarships. The prospect of receiving financial support was a motivating factor, but more importantly, the scholarships provided a platform for Dr. Nasreen Parveen to push herself further and unlock new horizons. She applied for multiple scholarships, and among them was the prestigious LILA Poonawalla Foundation (LPF) Scholarship, which recognized academic excellence and leadership potential. Dr. Nasreen Parveen poured her heart and soul into the application, and after a rigorous selection process, she was awarded the scholarship. This achievement was not just a financial boon, but a validation of her capabilities and determination to succeed on her own terms.
