First and foremost, to the people of Trinidad and Tobago, who trusted me, embraced me, and allowed me the privilege of serving you — this journey is as much yours as it is mine. Your resilience, your faith, and your courage have inspired me at every stage. Whatever I have built, I have built alongside you.
To my beloved family — the heart of my journey and the compass of my life.
This book, though it bears my name, carries within it the echoes of your love, sacrifice, and faith. Every achievement chronicled here was born from the values you instilled in me, the encouragement you gave me, and the unwavering belief you held that I could make a difference.
To my parents — Bissoondaye Ramsingh and Arjoon Ramsingh — you were my first teachers, my earliest role models. You taught me that integrity is more valuable than gold, that humility makes a man richer than wealth ever could, and that service to others is the truest measure of success. The lessons you gave me in childhood have been the guiding light of my entire life.
To my wife — Valeria Ramsingh — you are my anchor in every storm, my partner in every step, and my greatest source of strength. You have carried the weight of my long absences, shared the burdens of my responsibilities, and still offered me the comfort of unconditional love. Your quiet courage has been the invisible force that has kept me grounded and inspired.
To my children — Mukesh Ramsingh (married to Haffeeza Ramsingh), Nash Ramsingh (married to Sadie Ramsingh), and Kate Ramsingh (married to Kevin Kowlessar) — you are my living legacy. Your laughter gives me hope, your dreams fuel my determination, and your pride in me makes every challenge worth facing. When I work to make this world better, it is with the hope that your future will be brighter, your opportunities greater, and your possibilities limitless.
To my grandchildren — Seleen, Mark, Nyle, Justin, Nathen, Joshua, Ava, and Eli — each of you is a light in my life. Seleen, as my eldest grand-daughter and a medical doctor, holds a special place of pride, being the first professional in our family. To my great-grandchildren — two precious blessings — you remind me that our family’s story will continue for generations to come.
To my brothers and extended family — especially Narad Ramsingh, my only living brother; my supportive uncles Roodal Ramsingh and Harry Ramsingh who stood by me after my father’s passing; my maternal uncle and aunt, Ganesh and Urmilla Bahadoorsingh; and my cousin Ravi Ramsingh, whose friendship and support remain a source of strength even today — your presence and encouragement have shaped the man I became.
Dr. Nal Dalargoon Ramsingh was born on 7th November 1953 in Port of Spain, Trinidad. He spent his earliest years in the capital city before his family moved to Couva (Kuva), a semi-rural town that would eventually become his lifelong home and the foundation of his identity.
He was the son of Bissoondaye Ramsingh and Arjoon Ramsingh, both now deceased, who worked tirelessly to instill in their children values of hard work, humility, and compassion. Dr. Nal Ramsingh grew up alongside four siblings — one sister and three brothers — in a household that knew its share of struggle but was rich in warmth and shared responsibility. His parents were not people of great material wealth, yet they were abundantly wealthy in wisdom and love, qualities that would shape the moral compass of their children.
After the passing of his father, his uncles Roodal Ramsingh and Harry Ramsingh stepped forward to provide guidance and support, ensuring that young Nal had male role models to lean on. On his maternal side, his uncle and aunt, Ganesh and Urmilla Bahadoorsingh, also played a strong role in his upbringing, offering encouragement during difficult times. Among his siblings, his brother Narad Ramsingh, his only surviving brother today, has remained a lifelong companion and source of family strength. His cousin Ravi Ramsingh would also later become a constant presence in his personal and professional journey, supporting him in both construction ventures and community service.
Life in Couva during the 1950s and 1960s was a blend of simplicity, struggle, and solidarity. Days began with the scent of roti cooking in the kitchen, the crowing of roosters at sunrise, and neighbors exchanging greetings across fences. Families leaned on one another, and the community was bound not by affluence, but by mutual respect, shared hardship, and deep cultural traditions.
By his early thirties, after years of struggle in business and rebuilding his life following the devastating fire that destroyed his furniture enterprise, Nal Dalargoon Ramsingh found himself drawn into the world of sports. For a man whose early youth had been consumed by work, he had never played organized sports as a boy. Yet, when friends encouraged him to participate, he discovered a new passion that would shape both his character and his service to others.
Over the course of nearly 19 years, he refereed matches across Trinidad, earning respect for his impartiality, command of the game, and unwavering commitment to the rules. His presence on the field was not simply about officiating; it was about teaching discipline, respect, and resilience. For countless young athletes, he became both a guide and a role model.
One of the greatest influences in this journey was his referee coach, Lennox Sirjuesingh, who helped him master the rules of soccer and shaped his growth as a leader on and off the field.
At the same time, he served as a football administrator, running community leagues and organizing competitions for over 18 consecutive years. For five of those years, he personally managed football in his district, ensuring that young people had access not just to the sport, but to the values it carried — teamwork, perseverance, and unity.
To Nal, football was never just a game. It was a platform for empowerment, especially for the underprivileged. Many of the young athletes he guided came from families who could not afford proper equipment, jerseys, or even shoes. Yet, he looked past appearances and saw their potential, energy, and determination.
By the time Nal Dalargoon Ramsingh had firmly established himself in business and in sports, his influence naturally began to extend beyond the football fields and shop floors. He was no longer just a referee or an entrepreneur; he was becoming a voice for his community. His reputation as a man of fairness, dedication, and vision led him to become one of the founding members of the Couva/Point Lisas Chamber of Commerce.
At first, he attended meetings as an observer and participant, gradually building strong relationships with fellow businesspeople. Over time, his quiet yet decisive leadership style earned the respect of his peers. One day, almost unexpectedly, he was nominated to step into the role of President of the Chamber. Though hesitant at first — still heavily focused on his own growing enterprises — he accepted the responsibility, recognizing it as another avenue to uplift the people of Couva.
During this period, he also built a close professional and personal bond with Mr. Feroze Khan, who served as Chamber President before him and later as a trusted colleague. Mr. Khan became a daily advisor, guiding Dr. Ramsingh not only in Chamber matters but also in politics, business decisions, and personal life. Their partnership symbolized the spirit of mentorship and collaboration that fueled the Chamber’s success.
The presidency was meant to be a rotating, annual responsibility. But for three consecutive years, Nal was re-elected, a testament to his effectiveness and the trust placed in him. His tenure quickly became defined by action over words. At the time, the Chamber operated from a small rented office, a modest space that did not reflect the ambitions of the business community it represented. Nal knew that if the Chamber was to truly serve its members, it needed both a vision and a home of its own.
The story of Dr. Nal Dalargoon Ramsingh is not his alone. It is a collective journey, a tapestry woven with the threads of family, friends, colleagues, communities, and countless individuals who stood beside him. No leader rises in isolation, and every step of his path has been guided, supported, and strengthened by the hands and hearts of others.
At the very heart of his journey lies his family, the unwavering source of love, strength, and purpose. His parents, Bissoondaye and Arjoon Ramsingh, gave him the greatest gifts: the values of integrity, humility, and service. Their teachings became the compass by which he lived. His uncles Roodal and Harry Ramsingh stepped in after his father’s passing to provide guidance and stability, while his maternal uncle and aunt, Ganesh and Urmilla Bahadoorsingh, offered encouragement during his most difficult years. His cousin, Ravi Ramsingh, has remained a lifelong supporter and confidant, and his brother, Narad Ramsingh, continues to be a pillar of strength as his only surviving sibling.
To his wife, Valeria Ramsingh, he owes eternal gratitude — for patience in the long hours of absence, for quiet strength in times of burden, and for love that anchored him in the storms of responsibility.
To his children — Mukesh (married to Haffeeza), Nash (married to Sadie), and Kate (married to Kevin Kowlessar) — he offers his deepest thanks for their love, pride, and unwavering faith in him. To his grandchildren — Seleen, Mark, Nyle, Justin, Nathen, Joshua, Ava, and Eli — you have each been lights in his life, with Seleen holding special pride as the first professional in the family, now a medical doctor. To his two great-grandchildren, he gives gratitude for continuing the family legacy into another generation.
Dr. Ramsingh extends heartfelt thanks to the people of Couva and Trinidad and Tobago, whose faith, trust, and support gave meaning to his service. Every handshake, every conversation, and every moment of shared hope became a building block of his mission. To the underprivileged families, community groups, and youth who welcomed him into their lives — you were not simply beneficiaries of his work, you were its greatest inspiration.
Your courage in the face of hardship and your determination to rise above challenges reminded him, time and again, why true leadership must always be rooted in service.
Special appreciation is owed to his friends — Harvey Mohommed, Satish Ramroop, Nizam Asmat, Curtis Mahabood, Kris Ramdat, Jaio Ramkissoon, and Shive Ramlochan — whose loyalty and encouragement gave him strength during the most demanding years of his service. Their companionship was a constant source of resilience.
He also acknowledges the profound influence of Mr. Feroze Khan, a mentor, colleague, and trusted advisor. Mr. Khan’s guidance in Chamber affairs, business, and life decisions was invaluable, and their collaboration became a cornerstone of many successful initiatives.
The Couva/Point Lisas Chamber of Commerce holds a special place in his heart. To the colleagues who entrusted him with leadership and joined him in transforming vision into progress, he offers his deepest gratitude. The Nal Ramsingh Auditorium, built through sacrifice and shared effort, stands as a monument not to one man, but to a collective spirit of determination and unity.
To the schools and colleges that welcomed his support, thank you for allowing him the privilege to contribute to the growth of young minds through sports and music. To the churches and temples that invited him to share in their missions, thank you for reinforcing his belief that faith and service walk hand in hand.
To the young athletes and students — you gave his work purpose. Your trust, discipline, and determination were his greatest reward. The lessons learned on football fields and in classrooms continue to echo in your lives, and in carrying them forward, you extend his legacy beyond measure.
Finally, to every individual who offered a kind word, a helping hand, or stood in solidarity with his causes — know that your contribution was never too small, and never unnoticed. It is in these countless acts of shared humanity that his journey found strength.
As he reflects on his life’s work, Dr. Ramsingh acknowledges with humility that his story, though told in his name, truly belongs to all who walked with him. It belongs to every family he supported, every business he helped grow, every community he uplifted, and every student he encouraged to dream.
This note of thanks is more than acknowledgment; it is a tribute to the collective spirit that fuels change. The life of Dr. Nal Dalargoon Ramsingh is, in truth, the life of a community, a family, and a nation that believed in the power of service and compassion. Together, they created a legacy of resilience, integrity, and hope that will continue to inspire for generations to come.
Thanks
Dr. Nal Dalargoon Ramsingh
