Rajendra Giri, was an executive engineer at Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and worked at the prestigious Bokaro Steel Plant, where he dedicated his career until his retirement in 2002. His mother, Sita Devi, was a devoted homemaker, providing a loving and stable environment for the family.
Raised in a family where both work and spirituality were valued, Dr. Kumar developed a deep sense of responsibility and respect for hard work. His father’s dedication to his profession and his mother’s emphasis on family and spiritual values laid the foundation for Dr. Kumar’s personal and professional life. Spirituality played an integral role in the family, and daily rituals such as prayers led by his father became a grounding force in his early years, instilling in him a sense of peace and discipline.
Dr. Kumar attended D A V Public School in Bokaro, where he completed his entire schooling from the preparatory class to 12th grade. In 2002, fresh out of college, Dr. Kumar embarked on his professional journey with Siemens Medical in Mumbai. Selected directly from his academic institution, he joined the global leader in medical technologies as a Trainee Engineer. At Siemens, he was introduced to the world of cutting-edge medical devices, gaining hands-on experience with advanced systems. This foundational period helped him understand the critical role of technology in modern healthcare and instilled in him a lifelong passion for biomedical engineering. After spending six months at Siemens, Dr. Kumar took on a new role at Pinnacle, a diagnostics-focused company in Mumbai, in 2003. As a Service Engineer, he began to broaden his expertise by working with diagnostic equipment. His responsibilities included selling and servicing high-value laboratory devices and managing installation projects. This year at Pinnacle sharpened his technical skills and deepened his understanding of client service and operational efficiency.
In February 2005, Dr. Kumar joined the National Neuroscience Centre, Peerless Hospital, Kolkata, as the Head of Biomedical. This tertiary care hospital, specializing in neuroscience, provided him with a platform to lead independently. Over the next three and a half years, he managed the hospital’s biomedical department with exceptional skill and dedication. He took charge of the procurement, selection, and installation of medical equipment, ensuring that every piece of technology met the highest standards. Dr. Kumar’s ability to handle negotiations, manage projects, and oversee maintenance activities established him as an indispensable part of the hospital’s operations. He also managed annual and comprehensive maintenance contracts, ensuring the seamless functioning of all medical devices.
In September 2008, Dr. Kumar joined Apollo Gleneagles Hospital, Kolkata, as a Senior Engineer - Biomedical. At this leading multi-specialty hospital, he managed large- scale projects involving the installation of advanced medical equipment. His role required meticulous attention to detail as he supervised maintenance activities, managed AMC/CMC agreements, and ensured the operational efficiency of all devices. His ability to resolve technical challenges swiftly made him a valued member of the team.
The pinnacle of Dr. Kumar’s career began in August 2010, when he joined Tata Medical Centre, Kolkata. As a Super- Specialty Cancer Hospital, Tata Medical Centre provided the perfect environment for Dr. Kumar to channel his expertise and leadership skills. Over the years, he has served as the Assistant General Manager - Biomedical, taking on a multifaceted role that involves procurement, negotiation, 20 project management, and maintenance.
