Born on December 31, 1971, in a small yet vibrant town – Thrissur, Kerala, India, his life was set in motion by the values instilled in him by his family. The foundation of his character was shaped by his father, a diligent Circle Inspector of Police, unfortunately passed away at the young age of Dr. Anantharaman, however held the father’s identity, duty bound and commitment to the society taught Anantharaman the importance of integrity, discipline, and responsibility. His mother, after father’s passing away, stepped forward with quite courage, shouldering every responsibility without hesitation, at the same time a loving homemaker, balanced the family dynamic by nurturing values of warmth, compassion, and the strength of family bonds. His Mother formed a solid pillar of support, providing the young Anantharaman with the moral and emotional guidance that would steer him through the most challenging times of his life. As the youngest of the family all his brothers and sisters have given unconditional support, love, belief and guidance for shaping him to be a better human being.
From a young age, Dr. Anantharaman displayed an insatiable curiosity, particularly in the fields of mathematics and technology. In 1993, fresh from completing his academic studies, Dr. Anantharaman took his first professional step with SMIT Terminals, a renowned global leader in offshore services. The offshore industry, known for its complexity and technical challenges, was the perfect backdrop for Dr. Anantharaman’s talents to shine. As he entered this competitive and high-stakes field, he joined the company as an Administrator, a role that, at first glance, might have seemed like a humble starting point.
At the beginning of his career 3 important mentors from the industry shaped him and his future growth namely Mike Wood, Paul Mulrainey and Theresa Mulrainey who were the pioneers in the industry since the 1970’s. Unfortunately, all the 3 personnel are no more.
However, Dr. Anantharaman’s approach to this role was far from ordinary. As an Administrator, he was not only responsible for overseeing administrative tasks, but he also immersed himself in learning about the various aspects of the offshore services sector. Whether it was terminal operations, offshore subsea services, marine services, logistics, or infrastructure development, Dr. Anantharaman knew that a thorough understanding of the entire spectrum of operations was essential for his long-term success. He paid meticulous attention to the intricacies of each project, making sure that no detail, no matter how small, was overlooked. The course on incident investigation and root cause analysis, for instance, allowed him to develop the tools needed to identify underlying issues in complex offshore operations and to create strategies for resolving them before they became critical problems. The safety management training further enhanced his ability to oversee operations in one of the most dangerous industries in the world, where safety is paramount. Meanwhile, his expertise in contract drafting and risk management equipped him with the strategic knowledge necessary to make critical decisions on high-stakes projects.

By 2008, Dr. Anantharaman’s career had taken a significant leap forward. His reputation for thoroughness, problem-solving, and leadership had caught the attention of senior management, and he was entrusted with the role of Proposals Manager in the SMIT Subsea division. In this capacity, Dr. Anantharaman was tasked with overseeing tenders for some of the most significant oil and gas contracts in the Middle East, North Africa, India, and the Caspian region—regions that are known for their vast energy resources but also for the fierce competition and political complexities inherent in securing large-scale projects. In 2010, SMIT merged with Boskalis two marine companies from The Netherlands.
