His mother, the late Aloka Ghosh, came from a well-respected business family rooted in the culturally vibrant neighbourhood of Baghbazar in North Kolkata. Specializing in Accountancy with Honours under Calcutta University, he stood out for his analytical mind and his affinity for numbers. However he could not take the final examination owing to his joining their family business upon sudden death to his father.

In parallel, Dr. Indra Kumar Ghosh also pursued legal studies, obtaining his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree in 1980 from the esteemed Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri Law College, also under Calcutta University. His passion for justice, structure, and regulatory frameworks led him to qualify as a lawyer and gain Bar registration with the Kolkata High Court. Though he had the credentials and legal acumen to build a promising career in law, Dr. Indra Kumar Ghosh made a conscious decision not to practice. The courtroom did not beckon him as strongly as the world of business did.

It was not a matter of chance but of conviction. The decision to forgo a legal career stemmed from both personal inclination and a sense of familial duty. The business, originally founded in 1950 by his father, Late Jagadindra Kumar Ghosh, and grandfather, was built upon a strong foundation in the fields of international logistics, customs clearance, and shipping. At that time, these sectors were complex, manually driven, and highly dependent on experience, trust, and government regulation. Dr. Indra Kumar Ghosh entered the field during a period when India’s economy was slowly opening up to global trade, and there was a rising demand for professional, organized services in the logistics industry.

With a solid academic background in commerce, accountancy, and law, Dr. Indra Kumar Ghosh brought with him a fresh perspective and a desire to modernize the family legacy.
