The life of Dr. Santosh Verma reflects a path shaped by responsibility, continuous learning, professional service, and a deep connection with people. Born on 21 July 1975 in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, he grew up in a family where education and values held an important place. His early years introduced him to the importance of perseverance, but circumstances soon placed responsibilities on his shoulders that influenced the direction of his life.
As the eldest among three brothers, with three elder sisters in the family, he grew up understanding the importance of family bonds. His father, Shri Shiv Narayan Lal Verma, and mother, Smt. Sudha Verma, who worked as a government teacher, played important roles in his upbringing. Early circumstances shaped his understanding of responsibility and influenced the choices he made in the years that followed.
Education remained an important part of his early life. During his school years in Lakhimpur Kheri, he developed a deeper understanding of learning and moved beyond simply memorising information. He completed his High School education from Government Inter College, Kheri in 1990 and later completed Intermediate from Government Inter College, Lakhimpur Kheri in 1992. His interest in learning continued even after entering professional life, and he pursued higher education alongside his responsibilities.
After completing his early education, he joined government service in the Basic Education Department, Uttar Pradesh, in 1993. His professional growth was built gradually through years of experience and administrative responsibilities. He built a long association with the Basic Education Department, Uttar Pradesh, through years of administrative service. His current association with BSA Lakhimpur Kheri reflects more than three decades of service within the educational administration system.
Alongside his professional responsibilities, Dr. Santosh continued expanding his academic knowledge. He completed his Bachelor of Arts from Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur in 1997, followed by a Master of Arts in Sociology in 2007. He later pursued an MBA in Finance from Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences, Allahabad, completing another area of study that broadened his understanding of management and finance. His academic growth continued alongside his professional responsibilities.
His professional journey was accompanied by encouragement from people who recognised his abilities. One such influence was Mr. Sanjay Yadav, who encouraged him through a personal letter after his transfer to Lakhimpur Kheri. The letter remained a meaningful reminder of encouragement and belief in his potential. Dr. Santosh carried it with him even during attempts for higher opportunities, including competitive examinations.
Beyond his official responsibilities, he has remained connected with social service. Since childhood, he has been associated with Nirankari Mission, following the connection his parents had with the organisation. Over time, he became involved with Nirankari Sewa Dal and took responsibility as a Unit Head in 2010. Through this association, he participated in activities such as blood donation camps, cleaning initiatives, tree plantation drives, and support for people affected by difficult situations, including flood victims.
Born on 21 July 1975 in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Santosh Verma grew up in a family where education, discipline, and responsibility were deeply valued. He was the son of Shri Shiv Narayan Lal Verma and Smt. Sudha Verma, who worked as a government teacher. His early years were spent in the environment of a close-knit family, where he shared his childhood with three elder sisters and two younger brothers, becoming the eldest among the brothers. The values he received during these formative years became an important part of the person he would later become.
During his childhood, education gradually became a significant part of his life. He studied in Lakhimpur Kheri, where opportunities and resources were different from those available in larger cities. At that time, English-medium education was not common in smaller towns, and local institutions played an important role in shaping the academic foundation of students. His early learning experience was not without challenges. In the beginning, he did not find learning easy, but as he progressed to Class 6, his understanding began to develop. Instead of depending only on memorisation, he started focusing on understanding concepts and grasping subjects more clearly.
This change in his approach towards learning became an important part of his academic growth. He began developing the ability to understand things deeply, which helped him progress in his studies. His early educational experience reflected a gradual process of improvement rather than immediate success, showing the importance of patience and continuous effort.
During his school years, Dr. Santosh studied at Government Inter College, Kheri, where he completed his High School education in 1990 under the Uttar Pradesh Board, Allahabad. He secured First Division in the examination. His subjects included Hindi, English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and Biology. This period marked an important stage in his academic development and created the foundation for his further education.
After completing his High School education, he continued his studies at Government Inter College, Lakhimpur Kheri and completed Intermediate in 1992. He studied General Hindi, English, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. His interest in learning continued to grow, and he remained focused on building his educational qualifications despite the circumstances around him.
An important achievement during his student life came when he appeared for an entrance examination for a reputed college in the district headquarters of Lakhimpur Kheri. He secured the first position in that examination and gained admission there. The availability of a nominal fee structure made it possible for him to continue his education and move ahead with his academic aspirations.
However, his early years were also marked by a changing family situation. The passing of his father in 1990 became a significant turning point for the entire family. At that time, his mother, Smt. Sudha Verma, had the responsibility of raising and educating all the children. The family faced challenges while managing education expenses, particularly as the children were studying in private schools. For Dr. Santosh, this period brought a new understanding of responsibility and the role he would gradually begin to take within the family.
The passing of Shri Shiv Narayan Lal Verma in 1990 brought a major change in the life of Dr. Santosh and his family. At a time when the children were still growing and building their own futures, the family had to adjust to a new reality. His mother, Smt. Sudha Verma, who was working as a government teacher, took on the responsibility of raising and educating all the children. With limited financial resources and multiple responsibilities to manage, the family entered a challenging phase.
Among the siblings, Dr. Santosh gradually became a person the family could depend on. As the eldest among the three brothers, he carried responsibilities that extended beyond his own education and aspirations. His younger brother Sharad Verma remembers him for the great role he played for the family. For his siblings, he was not only an elder brother but also someone who guided, supported, and stood beside them whenever they needed him.
After completing his Class 12 education, Dr. Santosh accepted the compensatory government appointment that became available following his father’s passing. This decision marked a significant shift in his life. While he had his own academic interests and personal goals, the circumstances required him to contribute towards the family’s stability and support his mother in managing responsibilities.
His early years of employment were not easy. His first posting took him away from his hometown, which meant adapting to a new environment while managing work and personal responsibilities. He had to balance his professional duties with the practical challenges of living away from home, including managing his daily needs and maintaining his connection with his family. Despite these circumstances, he continued moving forward and did not allow his responsibilities to stop his personal growth.
One of the defining aspects of this period was his decision to continue his education alongside his job. Even while working, he remained focused on improving his qualifications. This approach reflected his belief in learning and growth, which continued throughout his professional life. His ability to manage employment, family responsibilities, and further education became an important part of his development.
The responsibilities he accepted during this period were not limited to his immediate family. As the years passed, Dr. Santosh continued supporting his siblings in different ways. According to Sharad Verma, even after the brothers and sisters became independent, he never considered his role complete. He remained available whenever the family required his support, whether through guidance, personal assistance, or financial help.
His relationship with his siblings became one of the strongest reflections of his role within the family. After losing their father at a young age, they looked towards him as a source of direction and support. He helped them move forward in their education and lives, becoming a figure who represented stability during changing circumstances.
For Dr. Santosh, learning was never limited to a particular stage of life. Even after stepping into professional responsibilities at a young age, he continued to value education and worked towards expanding his knowledge. Balancing employment, family responsibilities, and personal development required consistent effort, but he continued pursuing his academic goals alongside his work.
After completing his Intermediate education from Government Inter College, Lakhimpur Kheri in 1992, he continued his studies while managing the early years of his professional life. His decision to continue learning reflected his desire to improve himself and gain a broader understanding of different subjects. Rather than considering education complete after entering government service, he continued building his qualifications through further studies.
During this period, he also supported himself through tuition classes. While continuing his own education, he taught English to school students. This experience allowed him to remain connected with learning from both sides, as a student continuing his studies and as a teacher helping others understand their subjects.
His academic journey progressed with the completion of his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur, in 1997. The three-year programme included subjects such as English Language, History, and Political Science. This stage added another dimension to his educational foundation and strengthened his understanding of subjects related to language, society, and governance.
His interest in understanding society and human interactions later guided him towards Sociology. He pursued a Master of Arts in Sociology from Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur, completing the degree in 2007. The programme included areas such as theoretical perspectives in Sociology, social change and development, comparative Sociology, gender and society, and viva voce. Through this field of study, he developed a deeper academic perspective on social structures and human relationships.
Continuing his educational growth further, Dr. Santosh pursued a Master of Business Administration in Finance from Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology & Sciences, Allahabad, completing it in 2013. The programme covered areas including operations research, small business management and entrepreneurship, management of financial services, working capital management, personality and managerial performance, project work, and viva voce.
Pursuing multiple areas of study while continuing his professional responsibilities reflected his approach to continuous improvement. His academic choices were connected with different aspects of knowledge, from understanding society through Sociology to gaining insights into management and finance. Each qualification added another layer to his overall learning.
Dr. Santosh expresses his gratitude to everyone who has been a meaningful part of his life and contributed to the person he has become. He extends his heartfelt thanks to his parents, Shri Shiv Narayan Lal Verma and Smt. Sudha Verma, whose values and guidance formed the foundation of his life.
He acknowledges the constant support of his wife, Neelu, whose understanding, companionship, and encouragement remained an important source of strength throughout different stages of his personal and professional life. He also expresses his love and gratitude towards his sons, Shwetansh and Shreyansh, who have been an important part of his life and experiences.
A special appreciation is reserved for his siblings, especially his younger brothers, for the bond and understanding they share. Their relationship has remained a significant part of his life, built on mutual support and care.
He is also thankful to the people who influenced his thinking and helped him gain different perspectives, including Professor S.C. Mishra and Rajiv Agrawal. Their guidance and interactions contributed to his understanding of society and life.
His gratitude also extends to the members of Nirankari Mission and Nirankari Sewa Dal, through whom he found opportunities to participate in social service activities and contribute towards the community.
Every person who has shared a part in his life, whether through family, friendship, guidance, or service, has contributed to his growth and understanding. Their presence has shaped his experiences and remained an important part of his story.
thanks,
– Dr. (H.C.) Santosh Verma
