After about six months, he took on the role of a watchman at the same institution. Ensuring their safety, managing visitor movement, and maintaining proper procedures became part of his daily routine. It was not a glamorous job, but it was an important one, and he treated it with the same seriousness he would later bring to every leadership role.
As a watchman, he handled a variety of duties connected to the residential school’s functioning. He regulated entry and exit, made sure students followed the required protocols before leaving the campus, and performed his duties wherever he was needed, sometimes in different corners of the campus. The work required physical stamina and mental alertness, and he gave it his full attention.
Yet, those years were not without their quiet moments of reflection. He noticed the difference between his own position and those of the office staff. While passing through the corridors, he would see people working at desks, being addressed respectfully as “sir” or “madam”. That image stayed with him. It planted a seed, a quiet aspiration. His choice of subjects, including Accounting and Auditing, revealed a growing interest in commerce and financial systems. Even while continuing his duties as a watchman, he poured himself into his books, proving that difficult circumstances can be managed with focus, consistency, and an unshakable will.
The effort he invested during this period paid off in ways that surprised even those around him. He secured First Class with Distinction in Class XI and maintained that momentum through his academic journey. His success was not born from favourable conditions. Completing his HSC in 1993, he carried that same commitment forward and pursued his B.Com degree. Even as personal responsibilities grew, his dedication to learning remained untouched.
During this time, another beautiful chapter unfolded in his personal life. While pursuing his education, he embraced a new responsibility through marriage. He married Mrs Suvarna on 19 March 1995. Taking on family duties while continuing his studies required maturity, patience, and a deep sense of balance. Yet, he never viewed these responsibilities as burdens. He carried them alongside his academic goals with quiet grace and steady determination.
