Working with organisations such as University Hospital, Novartis, Hoffmann-La Roche, Ferring, Bayer, and Biogen gave him opportunities to participate in global research programmes, collaborate with experts across different fields, and contribute to important medical developments.
His years of work with patients and research teams strengthened his belief that healthcare requires both scientific knowledge and human connection. The moments when patients expressed gratitude and felt better because of his support remained among the most meaningful achievements of his professional life.
His journey also reflects the importance of mentorship, relationships, and shared knowledge. Before Prof. Dr. Andreas Ayuk Ayukebi became known for his work in medicine, clinical research, and global healthcare, his story began in Cameroon, where the early years of his life shaped the person he would become. The values that later guided his professional journey were formed through everyday experiences, family influence, and the understanding that progress required determination and personal effort.
Born in Cameroon, Prof. Ayukebi grew up in an environment where independence was not simply encouraged but became a necessary part of life. Although he had brothers and sisters around him, he learned from an early age that every individual had to develop the ability to stand on their own, make decisions, and take responsibility for their future. He describes his childhood as a time when he had to learn how to manage himself, look ahead, and understand what was needed to move forward.
Growing up in a bilingual country, he was exposed to both English and French influences. Coming from the English-speaking side of Cameroon, he developed the ability to communicate in French as well, reflecting the adaptability that became an important part of his life. His early surroundings taught him that opportunities were not always easily available and that one had to work hard to create a place for oneself. This mindset became one of the strongest foundations of his journey.
From a young age, Prof. Ayukebi developed a strong sense of responsibility towards himself and his family. Life during his younger years also taught him the importance of hard work. Prof. Ayukebi took initiative to support himself by teaching students through private evening classes. He helped young learners who needed additional support in subjects such as mathematics, chemistry, physics, and biology. Teaching others allowed him to earn some personal income, but it also strengthened his confidence and reinforced his understanding of knowledge as something that should be shared.

His educational journey began at Presbyterian School in Buea, where he received his primary education. These early years introduced him to the importance of learning and provided the foundation upon which he would continue to build. As he progressed further, he joined Baptist BBSS Secondary School, followed by Saint Joseph College Sasse, where his interest in science became stronger.
The schools he attended were boys’ schools, a choice influenced by his father, who believed these institutions provided a good educational environment. Growing up in such settings allowed him to focus on his studies while developing discipline and concentration. The structured environment encouraged him to take his education seriously and make the most of the opportunities available to him.
During his secondary education, Prof. Ayukebi discovered that science was the area that truly fascinated him. While students explored different subjects across science and arts, he found himself increasingly drawn towards scientific subjects. He enjoyed understanding how things worked, conducting experiments, and exploring the relationship between different areas of science. Physics and chemistry especially captured his attention because they allowed him to observe, analyse, and understand the principles behind the world around him.
For him, science was not simply about studying theories from books. It was about curiosity and exploration. His interest grew naturally as he realised that scientific knowledge could become a pathway towards solving problems and contributing to society.
A significant influence during this stage came from his teachers. They observed his strengths and recognised his abilities in particular subjects. Rather than simply guiding him towards completing his education, they encouraged him to think about how his talents could shape his future. When teachers noticed that he performed well in science, they advised him to continue developing those skills and consider careers connected to scientific fields.

Phase 3 : Crossing Borders in Pursuit of Knowledge and Opportunity
For Prof. Dr. Andreas Ayuk Ayukebi, the decision to leave Cameroon was not simply a change of location; it was a step into uncertainty with the hope of building a future through education. At a young age, he developed the belief that learning could open doors beyond the circumstances around him. The idea of studying abroad came from his own determination to seek greater opportunities, and he carried that vision forward despite the challenges involved.
At that time, pursuing education outside Cameroon was not an easy process. Communication was very different from what it is today. There was no easy access to the internet, no immediate exchange of information, and no simple way to connect with universities abroad. Applications were made through letters, and receiving a response could take several weeks. Every step required patience, effort, and persistence.
Before leaving Cameroon, Prof. Ayukebi first considered opportunities in the United States. He applied for a visa but was not successful. Instead of allowing that setback to stop him, he looked towards Europe and explored other possibilities. His search eventually led him to Germany, where he received an opportunity to study the German language at the University of Paderborn.
Receiving that admission became a defining moment in his life. He understood the importance of the opportunity placed before him because studying abroad was something that many people from his background could only dream about. He did not come from a wealthy family, and reaching that point required determination, preparation, and the support of those around him. He believed that an opportunity had opened for him, and he was determined not to waste it.
At the age of 17, he arrived in Germany and began adjusting to an entirely new environment. The first challenge he faced was learning the German language. This was an essential step because language was the foundation for continuing his education and becoming part of his new surroundings. A German family supported him during this transition, helping him adapt, continue his studies, and gradually become independent.
The early period in Germany required courage and flexibility. He had moved away from the environment he knew and entered a country with a different language and culture. However, the qualities he developed during his childhood, especially independence and perseverance, helped him face this new chapter. He approached the situation with the same mindset that had guided him earlier in life: if he wanted to achieve something, he had to work for it.
