Dr. Anil Kumar Saxena’s journey began in the heart of Delhi, on 8 August, 1956, where he was born to Late Sh. Kiran Behari Lal Saxena and Late Smt. Pushpa Devi. His early years were rooted in a world filled with discipline, strength, and a deep sense of service. Growing up in a military cantonment, life was far from ordinary. The environment was a melting pot of diverse people, each with their own stories, cultures, and struggles. The principles that would direct Dr. Saxena throughout his life were formed by this early exposure. He discovered the value of community, teamwork, and most importantly, compassion in this setting.
His father, Sh. Kiran Behari Lal Saxena, an army officer, was the embodiment of discipline and commitment to service. His unwavering work ethic and deep sense of duty instilled in Dr. Saxena the belief that one should always work with integrity and compassion, no matter the circumstances. He also inherited from his father the importance of responsibility, both to his family and society. His mother, Smt. Pushpa Devi, on the other hand, provided a softer but equally crucial influence in his life. She nurtured him with love, care, and the values of kindness and empathy, creating a balanced foundation for his personal and spritual growth.
In the midst of this strong family environment, Dr. Saxena thrived. His childhood, spent in the tight-knit community of the cantonment, allowed him to observe and learn from a range of people, each with different backgrounds and stories. Whether it was the camaraderie among the army families or the shared experiences of those from various walks of life, Dr. Saxena learned early on that every individual has something valuable to offer. He developed a strong sense of empathy and was constantly willing to help others, particularly those in need.
The sense of unity in the military cantonment was something that Dr. Saxena would never forget. It was here that he first encountered the idea of giving without expecting anything in return. Even as a young boy, he often found himself helping others, whether it was sharing school supplies with classmates or offering a helping hand to younger children in the neighborhood. His interactions in this encouraging setting aided in the development of the cooperative disposition that would come to define his personality.
Dr. Saxena’s academic journey began in the same community. His education started at the Cantonment School in Delhi, a place where he was exposed not just to formal learning, but also to the values of discipline and respect that military life imbibed. His school days were marked by curiosity and a thirst for knowledge. His early teachers noticed his keen interest in a wide array of subjects, from literature to science, and his enthusiasm for learning set him apart from his peers. But what truly stood out about Dr. Saxena during these formative years was his natural ability to connect with people from different walks of life. In addition to being a superb student, he was a kind and personable young man, qualities that would be crucial to his career.
The journey of Dr. Anil Kumar Saxena in education was never just about academics; it was about building a foundation that would carry him through life’s challenges and successes. His academic journey began in a world where the pursuit of knowledge was deeply intertwined with discipline, service, and a sense of community. These values, instilled by his parents, shaped not only his approach to learning but also his personal and professional growth.
From an early age, Dr. Saxena demonstrated a passion for learning. His school years, spent in the Cantonment School in Delhi, were marked by a natural curiosity and eagerness to absorb everything he could. Even in this early phase, he stood out among his peers for his ability to connect ideas, ask thoughtful questions, and explore subjects beyond the syllabus. Education, for him, was never a task, it was a door to a world of possibilities. This enthusiasm for learning made him a natural leader in his classroom, where he often found himself guiding and assisting his fellow students, even as he excelled academically.
As he progressed through his schooling, Dr. Saxena’s thirst for knowledge led him to take on increasingly challenging subjects. His academic pursuits were not confined to a single path; instead, they spanned across disciplines, nurturing his intellectual growth in multiple directions. However, despite his success in school, it was clear that his educational journey was not going to be an easy one. He faced many difficulties along the way, but it was precisely these difficulties that would mold his resolve and personality.
After completing his early education, Dr. Saxena transitioned to Central Government Schools in Delhi, where he pursued higher studies. This phase of his education introduced him to new ideas, new challenges, and a more complex academic environment. The academic rigor was demanding, and balancing studies with the realities of life was no easy feat. Yet, through it all, Dr. Saxena showed an unwavering commitment to his goals. His tenacity in the face of academic challenges was evidence of his inner fortitude and his conviction that education is crucial.
It was also during this time that Dr. Saxena began to realize that learning was not just about academic success. He understood that true education was about preparing oneself for the complexities of life, both in terms of personal growth and professional development. Dr. Saxena was drawn to the field of mechanical engineering, which would later be crucial to his career, while many of his peers were concentrating on more conventional careers.
Determined to expand his knowledge, he decided to pursue a B.Com degree alongside a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. This dual focus allowed him to explore both the technical and business aspects of life, equipping him with a well-rounded skill set that would serve him throughout his career. The trip was not simple. It took a great deal of commitment, time management, and effort to balance the demands of two different fields of study. Yet, Dr. Saxena embraced the challenge with enthusiasm. His academic journey was never defined by a singular focus; it was about honing his skills and expanding his horizons, knowing that every step forward brought him closer to his goals.
After completing his education, Dr. Anil Kumar Saxena ventured into the professional world, and his journey took a significant turn. His career began in the public sector, where he joined as a Quality Control Inspector. This early phase in his career was a testament to his resolve, as he quickly embraced the responsibility of ensuring high standards and quality in his work. Though the role was technical, it provided him with a solid foundation in the core values of precision, attention to detail, and accountability, qualities that would become integral to his future endeavors.
It was in this phase of his career that Dr. Saxena learned the importance of dedication and the relentless pursuit of excellence. His technical expertise and commitment to his job quickly earned him recognition within the organization. But what truly set him apart was his ability to connect with people. Regardless of their position in the hierarchy, he had a special way of making his coworkers feel appreciated, understood, and inspired. This strategy focused on leading via cooperation, empathy, and respect for one another rather than imposing authority. His peers appreciated him not only for his technical prowess but also for his ability to foster a cooperative environment that promoted growth and learning for everyone.
As his career progressed, Dr. Saxena began to rise through the ranks. His work ethic, combined with his deep sense of responsibility, led to leadership opportunities. His journey from a quality control role to more strategic positions within the organization was marked by an eagerness to embrace new challenges and a constant desire to learn. With each step, he demonstrated his capability to manage and lead with a human-centered approach. For Dr. Saxena, being a leader was about enabling others to develop and thrive alongside him rather than about maintaining authority.
In his new leadership roles, Dr. Saxena found himself guiding teams and departments, and it was in these roles that his leadership abilities truly began to shine. Whether he was overseeing a project, managing a team, or navigating complex situations, he always maintained a clear focus on the bigger picture. His leadership style was deeply rooted in empathy and emotional intelligence. He understood the value of listening, the importance of providing guidance, and the need for patience. His ability to navigate challenges with calm and clarity earned him the respect of his colleagues, making him a natural leader within his department.
His tenure in these roles also gave him the opportunity to influence the culture of his workplace. He worked tirelessly to ensure that his team members not only met organizational goals but also felt valued and supported in their growth. He believed that a motivated and fulfilled team was key to achieving any success, and this mindset set him apart from many of his contemporaries. It wasn’t just about getting the results; it was also about how those results were attained. By instilling a sense of purpose in his team, Dr. Saxena was able to inspire those around him to work together toward shared goals, fostering a sense of belonging and achievement.
