From an early age, Dr Timothy exhibited a keen interest in the field of science, with a particular focus on biology. The environment of his home, firmly established in analytical thinking, significantly contributed to the development of his intellectual curiosity. His father, a meticulous and analytical engineer, encouraged him to grasp the mechanics of the world around him, while his mother, an auditor, emphasised the value of accuracy, logic, and problem-solving. They collaboratively established the groundwork for his future achievements in areas requiring both technical proficiency and analytical reasoning.

Dr. Timothy commenced his academic journey with an emphasis on the natural sciences, aligning with his profound interest in comprehending the biological processes of life. During his time in secondary school, he demonstrated exceptional proficiency in subjects demanding analytical reasoning, especially in mathematics, biology, and chemistry. His inherent talent for these subjects, along with his genuine curiosity, distinguished him from his peers, establishing a reputation for academic excellence.

Despite the frequent relocations, Dr. Timothy’s resolve to achieve success remained steadfast. During a period when few individuals from his background were motivated to seek higher education, Dr. Timothy distinguished himself as the first member of his family to enrol in university. His choice to pursue Medical Bacteriology at Liverpool University was shaped by multiple factors: a personal connection to the city of Liverpool, where he spent time during his childhood in Southport, and a keen interest in the intersection of biology and medicine. Medical bacteriology, emphasising the comprehension of diseases at a molecular level, appeared to be an ideal avenue for him to pursue his interests in biology, while steering clear of the conventional medical career of becoming a doctor, a path that did not resonate with him.

Dr. Timothy’s experience at Liverpool University was pivotal. He was introduced to advanced scientific research and started to cultivate the analytical skills essential for addressing intricate challenges. The degree program offered a comprehensive foundation in biology and biochemistry, enabling him to delve into the intricacies of life at the molecular level. Dr. Timothy won a scholarship from ICI to pay for his degree and as part of the award, he worked for them in their labs While he worked for ICI (Imperial Chemical Industries), where he faced his first significant scientific challenge in a real-world setting. At ICI, he was involved in a project focused on converting methane gas from the North Sea into a protein source through the utilisation of single-cell microbes. This project marked an early milestone in Dr. Timothy’s career, showcasing the possibilities for innovation via science and technology.

“I soon recognised that the research at ICI, which focused on microbial protein production, was intellectually rewarding but fell short of my aspirations after completing my degree and engaging in those projects.” The ongoing repetition and the continuous execution of identical experiments to attain expected outcomes have lost their appeal for me. I sought an opportunity that provided greater creative freedom, one that transcended the limitations of a laboratory environment.”

During his tenure at ICI, he contributed to the Proteen project, which focused on transforming methane gas from the North Sea into a protein source through the utilisation of single-cell microbes. This project demonstrated innovation, showcasing the potential to offer a sustainable protein alternative to conventional food sources. While the research was indeed groundbreaking, Dr. Timothy recognised that the work capable of sustaining his intellectual curiosity extended beyond the confines of scientific laboratories. The repetitive nature of scientific research soon became a source of frustration, leading him to recognise that his true calling was business and entrepreneurship, where creativity, leadership, and solving real-world challenges take precedence.

When Dr. Alan Timothy founded Bubo.AI in 2010, he had already achieved significant entrepreneurial success throughout his career. His initial endeavours at Targetbase Business Solutions and Rocket Science laid the groundwork for his subsequent significant advancement—emerging as a global leader in artificial intelligence (AI). The move represented a logical advancement in his career, influenced by his previous experiences with data-driven business solutions along with his increasing enthusiasm for utilising emerging technologies to transform industries.

With a track record of building and selling companies, Dr Timothy was well-acquainted with the realm of entrepreneurship. His experience with data analytics and the expanding AI industry inspired his next vision. Dr. Timothy acknowledged from the outset that AI, while promising, remained in its early stages of development. The world was starting to acknowledge the transformative potential of AI, and he recognised the present as a chance to develop something that would not only change the way businesses functioned but also influence the future of technology.

“Artificial intelligence represented the next significant frontier. I viewed it as the advancement of data science and a means to access even greater potential. While many concentrated on the theoretical aspects of AI, I was committed to implementing it in a practical manner for immediate business application. The world was prepared for AI to transition from a mere concept to a practical tool for effective business solutions,” claimed Dr. Timothy.

In 2008, Dr. Timothy formed I-snapshot, a field sales management app and syatem using field sales data to drive decisions. Then, he sold it in 2020 to start Bubo.ai.

In 2020, Dr. Timothy established Bubo.AI with a distinct objective: to revolutionise the interaction between businesses and data through the integration of artificial intelligence into their operations. During that period, scholarly and theoretical conversations primarily featured artificial intelligence. A significant number of businesses remained cautious regarding the adoption of AI, uncertain about its practical benefits for their operations. Dr. Timothy, on the other hand, adopted a more progressive approach.

He aimed to establish a company that would deliver AI solutions addressing real-world challenges—from price optimisation in retail to more intricate applications in healthcare, finance, and manufacturing. His conviction was straightforward yet impactful: AI should not be a privilege reserved for large tech companies alone. It ought to be accessible to all businesses, irrespective of their size, to enhance their operations.
