Introduction

The story of Dr. Dave A.B. Ray is not one of chance but of choice—a series of decisions, each marked by resilience, commitment, and an unyielding desire to impact the lives of others. Born on September 10, 1966, in the beautiful island of Antigua and Barbuda, Dr. Ray’s early years were defined by the nurturing care of his beloved grandmother, Anne Aquila Isadora Archibald-Weatherill. Raised by her from the tender age of four months, while his parents lived in the United States, he learned the values of integrity, hard work, and community from a very young age. His grandmother’s influence helped shape his worldview and instilled in him the deep-rooted principles that would guide him throughout his life.

Dr. Ray’s childhood was filled with a range of experiences that not only contributed to his personal growth but also helped him develop the leadership qualities that would become central to his later career. From his early days in the Pentecostal church, Mount of Blessing New Testament Church of God, where he was actively involved in choir and community activities, to his participation in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts at Spring Gardens Moravian Church, he demonstrated an early inclination towards service and leadership. His assertiveness and leadership abilities were evident as he rose to become a prefect, class monitor, and ultimately, the head boy at his school, CHSS. He was not only a high achiever in academics but also excelled in extracurricular activities, including school plays, debates, and even dance.

His talent for leadership and his drive to excel continued to manifest throughout his adolescent years. After secondary school, Dr. Ray moved on to become part of a dance company, where he traveled extensively throughout Europe, including Paris, Amsterdam, West Germany, Austria, Belgium, and Togo. These formative experiences abroad helped him develop a broader perspective on the world, expanding his cultural awareness and giving him a deeper understanding of global dynamics. Yet, even as he embraced the world of performing arts, his passion for beauty and aesthetics was taking root.

As a teenager, Dr. Ray developed an interest in hairstyling, a skill he honed from the age of 13. Little did he know, this interest would evolve into one of the defining aspects of his career, shaping his entrepreneurial journey and leading him to become a leading figure in the beauty and trichology industries. It was during these years that Dr. Ray first discovered the power of self-expression and creativity through beauty, something that would play a pivotal role in both his personal and professional growth.

In his early adulthood, Dr. Ray found his calling not only in the beauty industry but also in education. He became a teacher in Antigua, where he taught English, French, and Chemistry Assistant at an all-girls high school, CKHS. His time as an educator helped him realize the importance of sharing knowledge and empowering others to reach their full potential. However, his journey would soon take him to the United States, where he pursued higher education in business, all while refining his craft in the beauty industry by attending beauty school.

“The foundation of every state is the education of its youth.”

His parents, who were living in the United States at the time, had to rely on the care and wisdom of Dr. Dave’s grandmother, her husband and two daughters, who took on the responsibility of raising him with unwavering dedication. Although physically distant from his parents, Dr. Ray never felt the absence of love or support. His grandmother’s influence was felt every day as she provided him with a sense of stability, security, and warmth.
