Dr. Prashant Goel‘s life and career embody the essence of service, dedication, and professional excellence. His journey, shaped by both personal influences and professional experiences, stands as a testament to the power of hard work, continuous learning, and a deep commitment to public welfare. From his early days in a family that valued public service to his rise in one of the most demanding fields of civil engineering, Dr. Goel’s life story is one of resilience, leadership, and an unyielding pursuit of quality.

Born in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Goel was deeply influenced by his father, Dr. Krishna Dev Gupta, a respected medical officer. His father’s dedication to public health and his selfless service to the community became a guiding light for young Prashant. The values instilled by his father, selflessness, dedication to work, and a focus on making a positive impact became the foundation upon which Dr. Goel would build his professional life. His mother, Smt. Santosh Gupta, also played a pivotal role in shaping his character. Her nurturing and sacrifice, especially when she left her own career to care for her children, taught him the importance of family, balance, and responsibility. These lessons have stayed with him throughout his career, driving him to always keep the welfare of others at the forefront of his endeavors.

Dr. Goel’s educational journey began in Dehradun, where his father was stationed, and continued across various schools and institutions as the family relocated. Here is where he met the first of many important people who would help him along the way. His father worked with a lot of different kinds of professionals, like soldiers and freedom fighters. This made him respect discipline, service, and the idea that you can learn from people who have already done what you want to do. These events were the basis of his professional values. He later completed his Diploma in Civil Engineering from S.G.S.J. Polytechnic in Khurja, marking the beginning of his technical journey into the world of civil infrastructure.

After completing his diploma, Dr. Goel transitioned into the workforce, starting his career in the private sector. His first professional experiences were with Baburam and Company, where he worked on various construction projects, and BOC Properties Limited, where he contributed to the development of high-rise buildings and large-scale residential complexes. These early years exposed him to the technical intricacies of civil engineering, including water and sewer line projects, RCC structures, and the management of large-scale construction activities. His work at BOC Properties, in particular, gave him a firsthand look at the problems and benefits of running complicated projects, which prepared him well for his future jobs.

In 1990, Dr. Goel made a significant transition to government service, joining the Delhi Water Supply & Sewage Disposal Undertaking (Municipal Corporation of Delhi), called “Delhi Jal Board”, where he would spend the majority of his career. His journey in the public sector began as a Junior Engineer (Civil), where he quickly gained valuable experience in water supply and sewerage systems and construction of a water treatment plant. Over the years, he would rise through the ranks, thanks to his exemplary performance, technical expertise, and unwavering commitment to the public. He served as an Assistant Engineer from October 2015, was promoted to Assistant Executive Engineer in August 2021, and finally became an Executive Engineer in April 2023, a position he continues to hold as of this writing. In each of these roles, Dr. Goel’s focus has always been on the successful execution of civil infrastructure projects, ensuring quality control, adherence to safety standards, and the timely completion of projects that impact the lives of millions.

Phase 1: Foundations of a Legacy

The story of Dr. Prashant Goel begins in the humble city of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, where he was born into a family that valued public service and the pursuit of excellence. His father, Dr. Krishna Dev Gupta, was a dedicated medical officer, a man whose commitment to his profession and service to the community left an indelible mark on young Prashant. From the earliest days, Dr. Goel was deeply influenced by his father’s work ethic, his care for others, and his deep sense of responsibility. It was within this environment that Dr. Goel was taught the true meaning of selflessness and the importance of making a positive impact on the world.

Despite the challenges his father faced in balancing his demanding profession with family life, Dr. Krishna Dev Gupta always made time for his children. His dedication was not just to his work but to his family as well. In his eyes, service to others was not confined to the walls of a hospital; it extended to his family, his community, and his every action. This profound commitment to service became the guiding principle that would shape Dr. Goel’s own career. As a child, Prashant witnessed his father’s tireless work and the sacrifices he made to help others, learning that a sense of duty and commitment were not just ideals to aspire to but values to live by.

At the same time, Dr. Goel’s mother, Smt. Santosh Gupta, played a crucial role in shaping his character. A woman of grace and strength, Smt. Santosh Gupta was a teacher who valued education above all. She taught her kids not only how important it is to do well in school, but also how to be kind, understanding, and self-disciplined. Dr. Goel often reflects on how his mother’s unwavering support and guidance gave him the strength to navigate the ups and downs of his life. She made the ultimate sacrifice when she chose to step down from her position as a vice principal to devote herself fully to her family. From this selfless decision of his mother, Dr. Goel learned the true importance of balance, as well as the profound strength that love and support bring to a family.

Phase 2 : Educational Journey and Early Career Struggles

Dr. Prashant Goel‘s educational journey was marked by the kind of resilience and adaptability that would define his entire career. Growing up in a family that valued education, service, and dedication, he had a natural inclination towards learning. His early years were shaped by the constant movements due to his father’s job, which exposed him to various environments and ways of life. While these transitions were challenging, they also became instrumental in developing a strong sense of adaptability that would later help him overcome the numerous professional challenges he would face.

After his early education in Dehradun, Dr. Goel moved to Bulandshahr, where he completed his intermediate education at DAV Inter College. This was a pivotal moment in his life, as it marked a period of self-discovery and intellectual growth. The transition to a new city, a new school, and a new set of classmates was not easy, but it was during this time that Dr. Goel developed his deep passion for science, particularly mathematics and physics. These subjects, with their logical structures and practical applications, fascinated him and laid the groundwork for his future career in engineering.

It was also during his time in Bulandshahr that Dr. Goel began to understand the importance of hard work and discipline in achieving one’s goals. He recognized that academic success was not solely about innate talent but also about consistent effort and dedication. He learned these lessons in school and through his own experiences, and they became very important in how he approached both his education and his work. Despite the challenges of adapting to new environments, Dr. Goel persevered, driven by his ambition to pursue a career in engineering, a field that had long piqued his interest.

Upon completing his intermediate studies, Dr. Goel decided to pursue a Diploma in Civil Engineering at S.G.S.J. Polytechnic, Khurja, where he would embark on his formal education in the field of civil engineering.

Phase 3 : Building the Foundation for Leadership

The journey from academia to professional life is often marked by challenges that test one’s resolve and determination. For Dr. Prashant Goel, his transition from a well-structured academic environment to the practical world of civil engineering was no different. Having completed his Diploma in Civil Engineering and Bachelor’s degree with a focus on advanced construction techniques, Dr. Goel was ready to face the real-world challenges of engineering. His early professional experiences provided him with invaluable lessons that laid the foundation for his leadership in the civil engineering field.

Dr. Goel’s first professional steps were taken in the private sector, where he worked with Baburam and Company and BOC Properties Limited. These roles were pivotal in his career development, offering him exposure to large-scale construction projects and the intricacies of civil engineering that were not covered in textbooks. As he moved through various roles, including site engineer and supervisor, he began to understand the practical complexities of civil engineering. Whether it was overseeing the construction of high-rise buildings or working on water and sewer line installations, each project he worked on offered him opportunities to refine his skills. These early years were very important because they gave Dr. Goel a chance to use what he had learned in school to solve real-world problems, which helped him understand the profession better.

One of the key moments in Dr. Goel’s early career came when he was involved in the construction of a 40 MGD Water Treatment Plant at Nangloi and  a Sewage Pumping Station at Bharat Nagar. This project provided him with an in-depth understanding of water management systems, something that would later become a core focus of his career. The hands-on experience he gained in laying various water lines of 100 mm to 600 mm dia. to large dia. lines of  900 mm dia. to 1200 mm, rising mains of 1200 mm dia. managing contractors, and ensuring quality control were invaluable parts of his development. Dr. Goel recalls the learning curve he faced during this time: “What I learned in the field was beyond what any classroom could teach. The real challenges are not found in the books but in the problems we solve every day.”
