Dr. Cruzim, raised in a large family, was profoundly influenced by a strong sense of community, familial connections, and a culture that esteemed education. Born in a humble household among eight siblings, he was instilled with the belief that education was essential for a more promising future from an early age. His parents, despite their constrained circumstances, ensured that each child comprehended the significance of academic success. For Dr. Cruzim, this fundamental conviction provided the impetus for his educational path.
Experiencing childhood in a small town presented numerous challenges. Resources were limited, and numerous children, including Dr. Cruzim, had to traverse miles to get to the nearest school. Nevertheless, in spite of these obstacles, his desire for knowledge remained fervent. His family, despite their lack of affluence, had cultivated in him a passion for learning, which served as his impetus for advancement.
His parents, who lacked formal education, recognised that academic success was key to a better life. They made sacrifices to guarantee their children could attend school, frequently forgoing personal needs to provide the necessary books, clothes, and supplies for their education. Dr. Cruzim maintained this dedication to his studies throughout his life. His parents’ sacrifices were always evident to him, serving as a perpetual reminder of the significance of endurance and tenacity in achieving one’s objectives.
In his youth, Dr. Cruzim developed a distinct passion for mathematics. The logical framework of mathematics and its emphasis on problem-solving drew him in. His first fascination with mathematics extended beyond mere numerals; it encompassed the manner in which mathematics offered resolutions to practical issues.
Upon receiving his Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from St. Rita’s College of Balingasag, Dr. Cruzim Pacuribot Cuerquez embarked on his career path with a profound realisation: his purpose was to do more than just instruct; he was destined to change his students’ perspectives on mathematics. His passion for making a difference drove him to pursue higher education and hone his mastery of mathematics theory and application.
Dr. Cruzim, like many young professionals, grappled with the question of whether to enter the workforce or continue his education after finishing his bachelor’s degree. Even though he had already started teaching, he decided to pursue a Master’s degree in mathematics education from the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines because he wanted to learn more and have a better grasp of the subject. This choice was a turning moment in his career since it cemented his commitment to education and learning for the rest of his life.
His academic rigour and an increasing sense of responsibility for his pupils defined his tenure at the University of Science & Technology. As a result of participating in the program, Dr. Cruzim was able to improve his understanding of mathematical theories and his abilities as a teacher. Above all, it strengthened his conviction that mathematics is more than just a course for test-taking; it’s a mindset and approach to solving problems that has real-world applications.
Dr. Cruzim had a paradigm shift about his function as a teacher at this period. He came to realise that being a good teacher required him to continually learn and adapt. He needed to adapt his teaching style to the changing world of education. In an effort to make mathematics more interesting, relevant, and approachable for students from diverse backgrounds, Dr. Cruzim began to investigate alternative approaches to education. He believed education was more than just teaching; it was also about inspiring students to think critically, be curious, and accept the unknown.
Phase 3 was a watershed moment in Dr. Cruzim Pacuribot Cuerquez’s educational path; he took on leadership roles that would impact his students’ and the field’s futures in profound ways. During this stage, Dr. Cruzim’s transformative work in curriculum development, teacher training, and educational policy implementation is showcased, as is his shift from an outstanding teacher to an important leader within the educational system.
After being appointed chairman of the mathematics department at Salay National High School in the Philippines, Dr. Cruzim began his climb to leadership positions. Taking this job was the first step in his mission to revolutionise math education in his area. The importance of providing teachers with the resources they need to excel in the classroom was something that Dr. Cruzim, as director of the department, saw as crucial to enhancing student results. His primary goal in his new position was to encourage teamwork and constant development among maths faculty.
Regular professional development seminars for the mathematics faculty were one of Dr. Cruzim’s early initiatives as department chair. Keeping up with the latest trends in education was important to him, and he wanted his colleagues to do the same. Dr. Cruzim made sure his instructors had access to modern teaching methods and materials by arranging for workshops and training sessions. As part of this effort, we implemented new approaches to education, such as project-based learning and peer review sessions, which allowed educators to work together, exchange ideas, and assess the effectiveness of other educators’ lessons. These programs did more than just raise the bar for math instruction; they also fostered an environment where educators could build stronger relationships with one another and share best practices.
There were other schools that benefited from Dr. Cruzim’s leadership. He was appointed as Mathematics Supervisor for the Department of Education in Misamis Oriental after his reputation as a competent educator and leader quickly expanded beyond Salay National High School. This marked a pivotal moment in his career.
