Phase 1 : A Humble Beginning in Allahabad

“Success is not in what you have, but who you are.” – Bo Bennett

On a serene summer morning, June 1, 1953, the city of Allahabad—known for its confluence of cultures, intellectual vibrancy, and spiritual significance—witnessed the birth of a boy destined for greatness. The boy, named Qamrul, was born into a family deeply rooted in discipline, integrity, and resilience. His father, a dedicated police officer, embodied duty and commitment, often donning his crisp uniform as a reminder of the values he upheld. His mother, a pillar of strength, cultivated an environment of warmth, care, and moral grounding, instilling in her children the virtues of empathy and perseverance. Dr. Qamrul was the middle child, nestled between two brothers and a sister. This unique position in the family profoundly influenced his personality. Being neither the eldest, burdened with responsibilities, nor the youngest, shielded by indulgence, young Qamrul learned to navigate the delicate balance of mediation and self-assertion. He often played the role of a peacemaker, a skill that would later serve him well in life’s complex arenas.

The Allahabad of the 1950s was a vibrant tapestry of history and culture. Streets echoed with the hum of bustling bazaars, temples, mosques, and colonial-era buildings. This lively environment left a deep impression on Dr. Qamrul, sparking an innate curiosity about the world around him. His family lived modestly but with dignity, in a home where the value of hard work outweighed material wealth. Even at a young age, Dr. Qamrul displayed an eagerness to understand life beyond the ordinary, often asking questions that challenged conventional thinking.

Education was a cornerstone of the family’s ethos. Recognizing Dr. Qamrul’s intellectual potential, his parents enrolled him in an English-medium school, an uncommon but progressive choice at the time. His father believed that mastering the English language would open doors to global opportunities, a foresight that would prove pivotal in Dr. Qamrul’s journey.

Though his dreams were still unshaped, the seeds of ambition had been planted. With a thirst for knowledge and an unyielding curiosity, Dr. Qamrul was poised to embark on a journey that would eventually lead him to cross international borders and make significant contributions to the field of dairy technology. This chapter of Dr. Qamrul’s life, filled with humble beginnings, familial values, and early glimpses of brilliance, laid the foundation for the remarkable journey that lay ahead. Like a river carving its path through rocks, young Qamrul’s life was shaped by the virtues of discipline, resilience, and an unquenchable desire to explore the unknown.

Phase 2 : College Life and Overcoming Challenges

“In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity.” – Albert Einstein

Having completed his schooling with a strong foundation in academics, Dr. Qamrul’s next step was higher education. In the culturally rich city of Allahabad, Dr. Qamrul enrolled at Majidia Islamia College, where his love for science and learning deepened. The college provided him with his first taste of academic independence, a place where his curiosity flourished and his ambitions found direction.

It was here that Dr. Qamrul’s passion for science and technology became evident. Encouraged by professors who recognized his potential, Dr. Qamrul became fascinated by the intricate workings of nature and the application of science to solve real-world problems. This fascination steered him towards a field that combined innovation with practicality: dairy processing and production.

Dr. Qamrul’s ambition led him to the Allahabad Agriculture Institute, a premier institution known for its excellence in agricultural and allied sciences. Here, he pursued a Bachelor of Science degree with a specialization in dairy processing and production, a field that was gaining significance in India’s evolving agricultural landscape.

The curriculum was rigorous, but Dr. Qamrul’s determination knew no bounds. While many of his peers were satisfied with simply meeting academic requirements, Dr. Qamrul went above and beyond, often immersing himself in research and practical assignments. His hard work paid off, and by 1972, he had not only completed his master’s degree in dairy technology but also achieved the prestigious second position in his class—a testament to his dedication and intellectual prowess.

However, Dr. Qamrul’s journey at the institute was far from smooth. Despite having attended English-medium schools, he faced a significant language barrier during his higher education. At the time, Hindi was the predominant medium of instruction, and many of his professors and peers communicated almost exclusively in it. This posed a daunting challenge for Dr. Qamrul, who initially struggled to follow lectures and participate in discussions effectively.

In this challenging phase, friendships became Dr. Qamrul’s lifeline. Two of his closest companions, Janeshwar Mishra and Chotelal Yadav, played pivotal roles in his journey. With their support and his unwavering determination, Dr. Qamrul not only overcame the language barrier but also developed a deep appreciation for Hindi, mastering it to the point where he could confidently communicate and excel in his studies.

During this time, Dr. Qamrul found inspiration in an unexpected but familiar figure: Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan, who also hailed from Allahabad. Amitabh’s rise to stardom was not an overnight success; he had faced rejection, criticism, and immense struggles before earning his place as the “angry young man” of Indian cinema.

One of the defining traits of Dr. Qamrul during his college years was his ability to turn adversity into opportunity. Whether it was the language barrier, the pressure of a rigorous curriculum, or the financial constraints of a modest background, Dr. Qamrul approached each challenge with grit and optimism. He realized that success was not about avoiding difficulties but about facing them head-on and emerging stronger.

By the time he graduated in 1972, Dr. Qamrul had transformed into a confident and capable young man, ready to take on the world. Armed with knowledge, skills, and a newfound mastery of Hindi, he was prepared to step into the professional realm. His achievements in dairy technology would soon become the cornerstone of a career that would impact countless lives and revolutionize the industry.

Phase 3 : Fitness and Philosophy

“Take care of your body. It’s the only place you have to live.” – Jim Rohn

Fitness was not merely an activity for Dr. Qamrul; it became a way of life. Growing up in Allahabad, he was deeply influenced by the disciplined lifestyle of his father, a police officer. His father’s commitment to physical fitness and daily routine instilled in young Dr. Qamrul a sense of respect for the importance of maintaining one’s health. His father often emphasized that a strong body and disciplined mind were the key to facing life’s challenges, a lesson that stayed with Dr. Qamrul throughout his life.

As a child, Dr. Qamrul enjoyed activities that connected him to nature. He spent countless mornings cycling through the bustling streets and serene outskirts of Allahabad. Cycling was not just exercise for him; it was a moment of reflection and exploration. The gentle breeze, the rhythm of the pedals, and the sights of the city awakened a sense of freedom and clarity within him.

Dr. Qamrul’s approach to fitness was never limited to the physical realm. He firmly believed in the harmony of mind and body, a concept that was deeply rooted in his philosophical inclinations. During his teenage years, he developed a keen interest in the works of Swami Vivekananda, whose teachings on self-discipline, spirituality, and the power of the mind resonated deeply with him.

While Swami Vivekananda inspired his spiritual journey, the influence of Amitabh Bachchan shaped his approach to discipline and perseverance. Dr. Qamrul admired the Bollywood legend not just for his acting prowess but for his ability to reinvent himself, overcome setbacks, and maintain a strong work ethic. Amitabh’s larger-than-life persona and relentless commitment to his craft motivated Dr. Qamrul to push his boundaries, both physically and mentally.

Dr. Qamrul was a voracious reader, constantly seeking knowledge that could enrich his understanding of the world. Alongside Vivekananda’s spiritual teachings, the works of Bertrand Russell, the British philosopher and logician, became an integral part of his intellectual diet.

Dr. Qamrul’s love for philosophy was not confined to books; it manifested in his daily life. He often quoted Swami Vivekananda’s famous words: “Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached.” These words became a mantra for him, reminding him to stay focused and persistent in the face of adversity.

Dr. Qamrul’s commitment to fitness and philosophy left a lasting impact on those around him. His ability to integrate physical health, spiritual wisdom, and logical reasoning into his life became an inspiration for others. He often shared his journey with friends, family, and colleagues, encouraging them to adopt a balanced approach to life. To Dr. Qamrul, fitness was more than a personal pursuit—it was a philosophy of living, a way to achieve harmony between the mind, body, and spirit. It was this philosophy that became a guiding light in his journey, shaping his character, decisions, and legacy.

Every great achievement begins with a simple effort, and it is dedication that transforms efforts into excellence
