Dr. Shetty was born on May 30, 1953, and he graduated with a B.Sc. in Microbiology in 1973 from the prestigious St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai. A memorable piece of advice from his professors, “Don’t look, observe,” became a guiding principle throughout his professional journey.
After graduation, Dr. Shetty had aspirations of studying further at the California Institute of Technology. However, due to family circumstances, this dream was not realized. Instead, he found himself guided by the compassionate Fr. Lancelot Perriera, the Principal of St. Xavier’s College, who helped him secure a teaching position at Sophia College in Mumbai. At just 20 years old, Dr. Shetty began teaching final-year Microbiology students. He began his career at Warner Hindustan – Parke Davis and later worked at Sarabhai Chemicals and Micro Labs Ltd., where he honed his skills in sales, marketing, and management. At Micro Labs Ltd., he took on the role of General Manager of Talent Development, focusing on nurturing and enhancing the capabilities of the company’s workforce. After his retirement, he continued contributing to the industry as Vice President of Marketing at Apex Labs in Chennai, showcasing his enduring commitment to excellence in pharmaceutical marketing and leadership.

Dr. Shetty’s work in coordinating the launch of two major blockbuster drugs, Lipitor (a cholesterol-lowering medication) and Quinapril (an ACE inhibitor used to treat hypertension), across 21 countries was a monumental achievement in his career.
