Phase 1: The Roots of Ambition

"He who has no vision for his future must live day by day." – Prophet Muhammad

In the vibrant streets of Bangalore, the young S.R. Sharieff was born into a family deeply entrenched in the transportation business. His father was an employee working in accounts department in the State government Road transport corporation. (KSRTC) .Watching his father navigate the challenges as an employee in a state government transport corporation in the accounts section, Dr. Sharieff learned the value of perseverance and diligence at a tender age. These lessons were not taught through words alone but through the silent, steadfast example his father set—a man who believed in earning an honest living and providing for his family with unwavering commitment.

The environment of his childhood was one of industriousness and ambition. The rhythmic hum of engines, the constant movement of goods, and the occasional discussions about logistics over evening tea were a part of Dr. Sharieff’s formative years. It was here, in the heart of his family’s enterprise, that his budding sense of responsibility took root. He often observed how his father resolved disputes with fairness and made decisions with foresight. These moments would later shape Dr. Sharieff’s leadership style and his commitment to fairness and integrity.

A Natural Leader in the Making

Dr. Sharieff’s journey through school and college was marked by excellence, not only in academics but also in a variety of co-curricular activities. From debates and elocution competitions to sports and cultural programs, he embraced every opportunity to learn and grow. His teachers frequently praised his dedication and his ability to inspire others, qualities that hinted at his future as a leader.

His peers saw in him a dependable friend and a visionary, someone who could lead with compassion and conviction. Whether it was organizing school events or mediating disputes among classmates, Dr. Sharieff displayed maturity far beyond his years. These experiences became stepping stones for the larger challenges he would face later in life, and they instilled in him the confidence to tackle them head-on.

Phase 2: Strength in Humble Beginnings

"Do not wait; the time will never be 'just right.' Start where you stand." – Napoleon Hill

In the early years of his adulthood, Dr. S.R. Sharieff faced a period that would test his character, endurance, and resilience. His ambition was evident, but it was during this phase of his life that he truly began to understand the meaning of hard work, sacrifice, and humility. Raised in a family that valued dedication, Dr. Sharieff was aware that success didn’t come without its share of struggles.

Supporting the Family

To alleviate some of the financial pressures on his family, Dr. Sharieff decided to take on part-time jobs. He was determined to contribute meaningfully to the household and ease his parents’ burden, even if it meant stepping out of his comfort zone. In a city like Bangalore, opportunities were not always plentiful, and young Dr. Sharieff had to take up any job he could find.

He started with administrative tasks, handling paperwork and managing basic office functions for small businesses. The work was often tedious, but he didn’t shy away from it. He understood that every responsibility, no matter how small, played a part in building his future. The daily routine of managing tasks, organizing schedules, and dealing with customer inquiries provided Dr. Sharieff with a foundational skill set in administration. It also developed his patience, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities. Despite the simplicity of these tasks, Dr. Sharieff approached them with the kind of seriousness that was characteristic of his work ethic, proving that even in the smallest jobs, one could find purpose.

However, his journey didn’t stop there. When the opportunity arose, Dr. Sharieff moved to Coorg, a scenic hill station in the Western Ghats, where he took on a highly unconventional job: bodybuilding government vehicles. This role, which involved working on heavy-duty machinery and transportation equipment, was physically demanding and required a great deal of practical skill. In Coorg, Dr. Sharieff worked under challenging conditions—often outdoors, facing the elements, and dealing with machinery that demanded precision and strength. The work was gruelling, but it offered him a chance to learn something new, build physical strength, and engage in a completely different kind of labour.

A Lesson in Humility

The experience of bodybuilding government vehicles in Coorg was transformative for Dr. Sharieff. Here, he learned the true meaning of humility and the value of every form of labour. He had been raised in a family that appreciated the importance of hard work, but it was only through these hands-on experiences that he came to understand the significance of each task—no matter how difficult or seemingly insignificant. His exposure to manual labour and its demands helped him develop a deep respect for workers and their contributions to society.

The experience also taught Dr. Sharieff to embrace adversity. While many would view such jobs as mundane or beneath them, he saw them as stepping stones on his path to greater ambitions. Each vehicle he worked on, each piece of equipment he maintained, was a reminder that success is built upon perseverance, diligence, and a willingness to start from humble beginnings. It was during this phase of his life that Dr. Sharieff began to internalize the importance of humility and its role in leadership. He realized that no task was too small and no challenge too great if it meant moving closer to his goals.

Phase 3: A Journey into Service

"The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." – Mahatma Gandhi

Dr. S.R. Sharieff’s professional journey was not merely about climbing the career ladder; it was a profound commitment to serving others, guided by a deep sense of purpose. This journey began in 1982 when he was appointed to the Ministry of Telecommunication in Bangalore, marking the start of a career dedicated to public service. Little did he know that this initial step would lay the groundwork for his future as a leader, educator, and visionary.

Entering Public Service

In 1982, Dr. Sharieff took his first significant step into the professional world with his appointment to the Ministry of Telecommunication. At the time, Bangalore was emerging as a hub of technological development and communication infrastructure, and the role in the ministry allowed Dr. Sharieff to immerse himself in this rapidly evolving field.

His duties in the Ministry of Telecommunication were administrative in nature, but the scope of the work demanded a level of precision, organization, and strategic thinking that was far beyond what he had encountered before. As part of the ministry’s operations, Dr. Sharieff was tasked with overseeing communication systems, managing logistical coordination, and ensuring that projects related to telecommunication infrastructure ran smoothly.

Working within the government system, Dr. Sharieff encountered both the challenges and rewards of public service. While bureaucracy and red tape often slowed progress, he understood that the larger goal was always about serving the public good. During his four years in the Ministry of Telecommunication, Dr. Sharieff honed his skills in administration and leadership, navigating the complexities of government operations. The experience taught him the importance of patience, attention to detail, and the ability to manage resources effectively. It was a time of great learning for Dr. Sharieff, as he absorbed the intricacies of governance and the importance of working for the welfare of society.
