This centre was a vital hub for hosting international and local conferences, fairs, and exhibitions, and Dr. Darshan Baijnath’s role was integral to its operations and growth.
Dr. Darshan Baijnath served as Convention Manager with a dynamic role that blended strategic planning, operational management, and marketing expertise. He was responsible for overseeing the overall operations of the conference centre, ensuring its facilities met world-class standards and remained a sought-after venue for prestigious events. After a successful tenure at the International Conference Centre – Grand Bay, Dr. Darshan Baijnath took a new step in his career in February 2002 when he joined Rogers & Co. Ltd under its Graduate Management Scheme (GMS). This was a fresh and exciting challenge for him, one that would allow him to delve deeply into the world of human resources and industrial relations, building on the leadership skills he had already developed. His new role as a Management Trainee in the Group Personnel Department (Corporate Services) at Rogers & Co. was designed to provide him with a comprehensive understanding of HR practices and the inner workings of a large corporate environment.
In February 2005, after gaining valuable experience in after-sales service and retail management, Dr. Darshan Baijnath took on a new leadership role at Ireland Blyth Ltd (IBL), one of Mauritius’ leading conglomerates. He joined the IBL Domestic Appliances division, assuming the position of Operations Manager for Retail & Services. This role was a significant step forward in his career, as it involved overseeing a wide range of operations across multiple showrooms and after-sales service centres.
Dr. Darshan Baijnath was entrusted with the overall responsibility for the 14 IBL Domestic Appliances showrooms located across Mauritius, which included prominent brands like Philips, Seb, Tefal, Calor, Rowenta, Moulinex, Kodak, and Canon. These showrooms were central to IBL’s retail business, and Dr. Darshan Baijnath played a crucial role in ensuring their smooth operation. His responsibilities included everything from showroom management to overseeing the after-sales service centre in Cassis, Port Louis.
